About Us
Founded in September 2011 by Mel Roberts, the Stonefields Choir has grown into a vibrant, dynamic community of over 150 members, now under the inspiring direction of Chris Bevan. More than just a choir, we’re a group united by a shared love of music, friendship, and fun. Whether discovering new skills or rekindling old ones, our mission is simple: to connect people and build community through the joy of singing.
Each year, Stonefields Choir proudly takes the stage for a number of charitable concerts, raising both funds and awareness for causes close to our hearts. We’ve supported organizations such as the Auckland City Mission, Parkinson’s NZ, Bowel Cancer NZ, and Dove Hospice & Wellness. In 2025, we are honoured to dedicate our annual concert to the Kidney Society NZ, continuing our commitment to making a difference through music.
In recognition of our passion and dedication, Stonefields Choir was awarded a Silver Medal at the 2024 World Choir Games a proud milestone that reflects the spirit and talent of our growing musical family.

This year, we are honoured to dedicate our concert to the Kidney Society NZ, continuing our commitment to making a positive impact through music. We also enjoy opportunities to be invited as special guests at other choirs’ performances and private events.
Our choir membership is incredibly diverse being made up of people from all walks of life and nationalities. Some of us read music, others do not. Some of us have been in choirs before in NZ or further afield and many are new to choir singing. So whatever your background all are welcome, although there is an expectation that you do have some singing ability.
We are not a religious choir but this does not stop us singing celebratory hymns or songs if we feel they will add to our repertoire. We sing music from all genres including pop, rock, musical theatre, classical choral, and gospel.
We meet to practice at Stonefields School Hall, 81 Tihi Street Stonefields on Mondays during school terms at 7.15pm until 9pm. Fees are $105 per term for membership of our main choir. This is followed by our extension Group rehearsal (SFX) which will run from 9.00pm to 9.40pm. An additional charge of $35 is payable per term to join SFX and additional responsibilities exist (see here). Unless invited we will only accept members into our SFX group at the start of Term 1 and you must have been a choir member for at least 2 terms before becoming eligible to join this group. There will also be a short informal audition for those that may wish to join this group Please note that term weeks can vary to either 8 or 10 rehearsals per term, depending on the school term or public holidays. Any cancelled sessions will be added on another day in the week or a Monday within the holidays. We do not give refunds or discounts for any missed rehearsals.
Stonefields Choir also has a great social family environment where we meet during the week for the occasional evening drinks or have private group rehearsals at a members home, which is great way of getting to know your fellow singers in a informal setting.
